Your voices matter. Please vote and be heard! “Youth and student organizing poses a real threat to authoritarians trying to concentrate power. Some of the most effective opposition and pro-democracy movements have been led by youth organizers. Young voters are more likely to be students living on campus or frequent movers.
Stricter ID laws and changes to residency requirements specifically target the flexibility young people need to vote. This is by design — introducing confusing, restrictive, and constantly changing policies discourages young people from voting. Get Out the Vote: ICI Postcarding Team
Postcard Warriors —Postcards to Swing States are available now. How many postcards could you write between now and mid-October? You can do this work independently, when convenient. Note the postcard postage increased to 65 cents on July 12.
Postcards have a 1.5% positive effect on election outcomes — enough to swing outcomes in this polarized time. Switches are fueled by independents and motivated voters who often don’t turn out in every election. The Independent voters’ top concern is consistent and across demographics: Affordability.
MAGA is out of step with Americans on Healthcare-Tariff-Taxes-Inflation and Voting Rights. Many decry the unauthorized Iran War; unnecessarily brutal treatment of citizens and non-citizens alike by ICE; the stunts with the East Wing, Kennedy Center, and the Reflecting Pool; the denial of benefits to low-income families while further enriching billionaires; and the efforts to undermine voting rights by making the process of voting more difficult for women and the rural voters, students, and low-income folks who may be less mobile.
So our “News Boosting” postcard campaign is laser focused on affordability—independent voters—swing districts.

Phone Banking—Virtual Sessions
Consider phone banking. On Sundays 4-6 pm, Lean Left Vermont holds a “Power Hour” in which they provide full training and the opportunity to sit in on live calls with an experienced caller.
Consider helping with phone banking. These Sunday sessions currently offer you the opportunity to recruit poll observers and hotline volunteers for two states with legislatures that are working hard to suppress the vote: New Hampshire and North Carolina.

As we heard confirmed by Vermont Secretary of State, Sarah Copeland Hanzas, at our meeting June 14, election protection is an extremely critical issue this year. Protect Democracy, which describes itself as a nonpartisan, anti-authoritarianism group, provides a helpful explanation about how the Trump administration plans to interfere with the 2026 elections. Also described are steps you and your neighbors can take to support each other on your trip to the polls.

Information about our voting laws and proposed changes to them that will make voting more difficult for many. MAGA aims to discourage voting through intimidation at polls, reducing the places to vote, imposing new rules for vote by mail (which especially impact rural and senior voters), the threat of special challenges to voting by women who, due to marriage, may have a name different from their birth surname. June 2026: Control of Senate: Democrats face an uphill battle but have pulled within striking distance of enough Republican-held seats to put the majority in play this fall, according to new New York Times/Siena polls. Melat Kiros, a 29-year-old democratic socialist, immigrant, and first-time candidate, unseated Diana DeGette, the 15-year Representative in the Denver area Democratic primary.
Trump’s endorsement is no longer untouchable. This showed up in June primary elections. While his preferred candidates won most of the June 16 major contests, Trump’s pick for the Georgia governorship (Jones) lost, though his pick for Senate (Collins) won. The loss of Jones ensured the night was not a clean sweep. Ballotpedia tracks the outcome of Trump endorsements. January 2026: Texas State District 9 elected a Democrat in a special election to fill a Senate seat. This is in North Texas, one of the most deep red areas in the USA. By 14 Points! Trump won this same district by 17 points. That is a swing of 31 points. This is a continuation of a trend of doing better than Kamala Harris did by an average of +12 all over America.
November 2025:
- Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill won governor elections by double digits.
- Two Georgia Democrats flipped seats on the state’s Public Service Commission.
- Democrats broke the Republican supermajority in the Mississippi State Senate seats.
