Palestine Film Series 6:30pm
Franklin County for Palestine is hosting a 5-film Palestine Film Series. This first film event of the series is co-sponsored and presented by the Montgomery Center for the Arts, Montgomery Center, VT on August 11.
The Wanted 18 (2015) is an animated/documentary hybrid depicting nonviolent Palestinian resistance during the First Intifada.
Synopsis: Cows labeled a threat spark surreal, real-life resistance in this dark satire.
More: The Wanted 18 is based on a real 1987 incident in Beit Sahour during the First Intifada: residents bought 18 cows to produce their own milk instead of relying on Israeli suppliers. Israeli military authorities declared the cows a threat to “national security,” and the town spent months hiding and relocating them to avoid confiscation. The film mixes documentary interviews with claymation reenactments, which is exactly why “surreal” and “dark satire” are the right words — it’s genuinely funny and strange in tone, not a grim war documentary, even though the underlying context is serious.
