Hello Indivisibles,
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all those who volunteered and donated to the Food Drive for Champlain Islands Food Shelf on Saturday!! You all made it a great, fun, successful event.
We raised $1,594 in cash donations and took in 774 pounds of food and goods. And added one new member to ICI.
We can be proud and thankful to live in such a generous, supportive community. And to belong to such a willing, caring group as Indivisible Champlain Islands. Our volunteers ran a smooth event and stayed cheerful, despite some mighty wind gusts, and frozen hands of those holding signs by the roadside. I want to also thank Heidi, Colleen, Courtney, Pat, and Berney for making sure there were treats and coffee for the volunteers. And the ever-smiling Diane and other volunteers from the Food Shelf who sorted and weighed all of the donations.
The one disappointment was that the Islander refused to cover the event. The Food Shelf could have really used the extra coverage. It would help boost donations a lot if more people understood the need. And we paid to place an ad in the Islander for the event. But still, they did not want to do an article about the Food Drive. Feel free to let them know your concern about this, if you like. I know that they do not want to cover Indivisible Champlain Islands events in general, but to not help spread the word about the need at the Food Shelf seems like a different matter.
I also want to thank those of you who were able to attend the ICE Out event in St. Albans on Friday. It was an impressive and inspiring rally. And they actually caused CBP to shutter their office for the day! And they got press coverage from all the local media.
After the ICE Out rally in St. Albans, some of you also joined the Friday “Defend Democracy” Honk & Wave in South Hero. Those three events all in the space of 2 days were a mighty lot of work! And yet, there you were!!
We all know that if we are to succeed, we all need to Speak Up, Stand Up and Show Up.
