Hello Indivisibles,

This past Sunday, we held an exciting event featuring Vermont Secretary of State, Sarah Copeland Hanzas.  It was a great afternoon.  Secretary Copeland Hanzas gave us clear, concise information that we all need, about the upcoming elections, both here in Vermont and nationally.  And the questions that were asked/answered after she spoke were so pertinent!  I was very impressed and learned a lot.  I cannot imagine what it would be like to be personally sued by the DOJ, but the Secretary seems to be withstanding the pressure with great courage.

I want to thank everyone who came to the event and I hope you found it as useful as I did.

I also want to thank all of you who made generous donations to help us cover the costs of this event.  PLEASE, if anyone has any suggestions where we can get “event insurance” in the future, that is more reasonably priced, let us know!

I also want to give a huge “thank you” to all who brought those delicious desserts!  I swear, they get better every time.  Especially, the chocolate mousse!!

And, finally, our volunteers from our Events Team, Leadership Team, Parade Team, and Postcard Team who all pitched in to make the event run smoothly.  They gave our members so many great ways to get involved and pitch in.  THANK YOU!

If you were not able to make it to the event, it is not too late to step up and join one of the teams.

March in the July 4th parade, help with the efforts to protect the Midterms and get out the vote, join the Post Card Warriors, find your spot on one of the Team Lead groups.  Or just say “I want to help” and we will chat with you to find the best fit, where you can help the most.

NEWSLETTERS

I have attached the latest INDIVISIBLE CHAMPLAIN ISLANDS NEWSLETTER and the latest VERMONT INDIVISIBLE DIGEST.  Please read them.  This is how we let you know what is happening in our local group, and what other groups around the state are doing.

I want to make one quick update to an item in the VT Indivisible Digest regarding Gov. Scott’s veto of the Data Center Moratorium bill.

The Digest item mentions that: “After intense corporate lobbying, Governor Phil Scott vetoed a bipartisan bill meant to place sustainability and ratepayer guardrails on new data center developments. Constituents are furious that tech interests were prioritized over local environmental protections and ratepayers.”

The Legislature then attempted to override the veto but did not reach the super-majority number of votes necessary.  It is discouraging to note that the Representatives for our county (Morgan and Morgan) voted against the override.

So the Governor’s veto stands, and there is no decisive defense against these huge operations which damage the environment and cause utility rates to skyrocket.  And guess what??  Just a couple of weeks later, there is already a company looking to put a data center where VT Yankee used to be.  (You should also note that Koch Brothers money is behind the group who lobbied the Governor to ignore the will of the people and feed the greed of big business.  And, yes, among other things, the Koch Brothers heavily invest in data centers!  These are the same people bankrolling the attempt to make the Vermont Legislature a Republican-controlled body, via the right-wing group, “Americans for Prosperity”.)

Thank you for your advocacy and support.  Please find your way to take action against this regime that is impacting so many aspects of our lives.
