7/16/26 2 pm. ICE protest & Trump speech; Food Shelf fun.

Sorry for an extra email, but there are several critical things that have just come up.

ICE: Tonight there is an emergency protest against the two most recent ICE killings. City Hall – Burlington, 6:00 pm. See the flyer attached. Browse all Messages from Marilyn.

Vermont Public documentary – a comprehensive look at the action taken by ALL parties during the hours-long detention attempt and protest on Dorset St in South Burlington in March.

The link should take you to the Vermont Public home page. Scroll down until you see the RED banner labeled “INSIDE A BOTCHED ICE RAID”.  There are other references to it on the page, but this takes you to the whole documentary.  It is very important to see this incident from ALL sides in order to fully understand what happened.  Each side wants you to believe their own spin on events.  Each person saw only a portion of what happened.  This documentary helps you see a fuller picture.

FOOD SHELF FUNDRAISER:

This is a fun one, Folks !!!  See the attached flyer.

Saturday, from 5:00 to 8:00 at Hero Islands Tiki Bar at the Marina at the end of Pelots Point.  Seth Yacovone is playing.  Donations to support our friends, at the Champlain Islands Food Shelf.  If you can’t make it, it’s a great time to go to their website and make a donation.

WARNING: TRUMP’S SPEECH TONIGHT:

Trump is planning to “address the nation” tonight at 9:00 pm on many national and cable stations.  He is being somewhat secretive about it, but, of course, it will be “really big”.  It is supposedly concerning elections, election security, voting machines, the 2020 election … and maybe China.

He says he will be presenting ‘newly declassified intelligence’ about the 2020 election.  He has had his new Acting Director of National Intelligence, Bill Pulte, (not a reassuring character!) harrassing the election officials in Georgia.  It may have something to do with that.  He will most certainly be using whatever he presents to sow further distrust in our actually very secure elections.

Some things to keep in mind when the nonsense starts flowing:

  — Trump was the President when the 2020 election took place.  He had access to ALL the national intelligence at the time.  He tried really hard to overturn that election then.  He failed because there was no election fraud in the 2020 election.
  — Election Influencing vs Election Interference: Influencing is something like spreading lies, promoting false stories on the internet, voter suppression.  Election interference is actually tampering with votes in some way. You will probably hear both of these terms a lot in the next few days.  Do not confuse them.
  — John Radcliffe was director of the National Intelligence Agency in 2020 and searched for foreign influence or interference in the 2020 election (remember the Italian spy satellites and rice paper?).  He is now the CIA Director, appointed by Trump in both cases.  He certainly had access to all national intelligence in 2020.
  — Not all RAW national intelligence that is gathered is credible.  Much is discounted as untrue, and some even deliberately planted.  Believing the untrue information is how conspiracy theories get started.  Exactly the goal of the enemy countries that plant these stories.  Will some discredited RAW intelligence data be what we see tonight?
  — 95%-98% of votes in the US are on paper ballots or have a paper trace.  Only Louisiana and a few rural counties in 4 red states do not.  It is pretty hard to cheat on a large scale.

We will see what is actually claimed tonight.  But we can expect it to be used to undermine the Midterms and to vindicate Trump’s claim that he won the 2020 election.

The President of the United States should be addressing the war in Iran, the rising cost of gas and food, health care, the closing of rural hospitals, the cost of housing, and a thousand other things that are impacting the health, safety, and prosperity of the American People.  Instead, we will go back to an election that happened years ago and listen to more lies about it.  Sigh.

Forewarned is forearmed.

Please come to our Good Trouble Lives On rally tomorrow starting at 4:00 in South Hero by the Worthen Library.  Protect the Right To Vote.  It is time for us all to take a stand.

Thank you,

Marilyn Lagrow
