Hello Indivisibles,
We will be having our next big meeting featuring guest speaker, Vermont Secretary of State, Sarah Copeland Hanzas. The topic is “PROTECT THE VOTE”.
All across America our election system is under attack. The MAGA movement is using every means they can think of to skew the results in their favor in the Midterms. They are trying to limit voting to just the people that support them and make it harder to vote for everyone else. And, you have heard about the redistricting being done to dilute Black and Democratic votes. (This effort was just super-charged by the latest Supreme Court ruling that gutted the last bit of the Voting Rights Act of 1965). But you may not have heard about the intimidation tactics at polling places that are being planned, or the use of the Postal Service to throw out votes, or the “challenges” to individuals and groups of voters that will leave them unable to vote on election day. Or many other tactics to suppress voting.

- What can we do to protect elections in Vermont?
- What can we do to protect elections across the country?
The fate of Democracy in this country is going to come down to this fight leading up to the midterms. Will MAGA be able to prevent a free and fair election, or will The People be able to determine what type of government they want? Will we be able to check the growing power and authoritarian tyranny of an 80 year old President, or will he be given carte blanche to do whatever he pleases.
Indivisible Champlain Islands leadership has decided that the fight to protect the Midterms will be the focus of our group from now until November. Yes, we will continue with the actions we have learned this past year: protest against cruel, unjust, unconstitutional, illegal, immoral, financially devastating acts of this Administration; support our neighbors and communities that are being harmed; educate ourselves and the public about what is happening; call out the lies, corruption and threats to Democracy.
But we will focus all that and add a new element to our actions to protect the vote and get out the vote at the midterms.
Join us on Sunday, June 14th, from 2:00 to 4:00 at the North Hero Community Hall to hear what our Secretary of State is doing to protect our elections and what threats we face. There will be ample time to ask your questions. Then, let us show you what you can actually do to take action now.
WE ARE FORMING A NEW TEAM TO TAKE THE LEAD IN THIS CAMPAIGN TO PROTECT THE VOTE AND WIN AGAINST MAGA IN THE MIDTERMS. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR THIS TEAM. WE NEED THEM NOW. PLEASE REPLY TO THIS EMAIL TO SIGN UP OR REQUEST MORE INFORMATION. This could not be more important.
The People have the power. But they have to choose to use it. Our power rests in joining together “in numbers too big to ignore” and acting in unison. Thank you for standing up and supporting this effort. And, please bring in new members to grow the power of our voice.We choose a government Of The People, By The People, For The People. All the People.
