Hello Indivisibles: Have you voted in the VERMONT PRIMARY ELECTIONS yet? Just 5 days left. You can vote on election day, Tuesday, August 11. Polls are open until 7:00 pm. Or, you can vote early, by getting a ballot from your town clerk before the election. It is TOO LATE to mail the ballot back – you will have to take it back to the Town Clerk, or put it in the secure drop box at the Town Clerk’s office, or bring it to the polls on election day.
And, just 88 days until the Midterm Election in November.
Primary elections in Vermont are actually 3 separate elections happening at the same time:
Elections for candidates for 3 parties; the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, and the Progressive Party. Candidates who will run as an Independant will not appear on the ballots for the Primary Election. They will follow a different procedure to get on the General Election Ballot in November.
Vermont has an “Open” Primary. Voters do NOT register with a political party. Voters are free to vote in whichever of the 3 party elections they want, but they can only vote in one. Voting in a party’s primary does not make you a registered member of that party. You do not have to declare a party to vote. No one is going to send your name to that party or tell anyone what party you voted for. There are 3 separate ballots. You will choose which party’s election you want to vote in, mark that ballot, and return the voted ballot, along with the 2 blank ballots. You cannot vote for someone on a different ballot than the one you choose to fill out. (Well, you can write-in someone from a different ballot, but that vote will not count in the other party’s election).
The results of the Primary Elections will determine which candidates each party will have on the ballot in the General Election in November.
EVERY VOTE COUNTS! PLEASE VOTE!
